Reinbeck, IA -- We're getting together at the brand new Ambient Ales for an unforgettable night celebrating local food, craft beer and Iowa farmers.
We'll start things off at 6pm with a whole roasted pig from Blue Barn BBQ and craft beer from Ambient Ales featuring Iowa hops.
At 7pm, we'll watch the documentary Farmers For America
At 8:15pm, we'll have a panel discussion with Aaron Broshar of Blue Barn BBQ, Zach Gardner of Ambient Ales, Kamyar Enshayan from University of Northern Iowa Local Food Program and Keri Byrum of Cedar Falls Hops Company. The discussion will be moderated by Graham Meriwether, the director of Farmers For America.
Film summary: The average age of the U.S. farmer has reached 60. Half of America's farmland will change ownership in the next 15 years. Our nation faces a little-known agricultural crisis on an unprecedented scale. Against all odds, this is the story of an eclectic mix of young people- military veterans, bright-eyed idealists, and multi-generational farmers who are accepting the virtuous challenge of feeding us all.
The documentary is narrated by Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs, Returning the Favor) and stars farmers from every region of the United States including national agricultural leaders like Joel Salatin, Eliot Coleman, Blake Hurst and Lindsey Lusher-Shute.
